Search warrant reveals what was seized from Charlotte house where mass shooting happened
A newly released search warrant reveals what Charlotte-Mecklenburg police seized from the house where four law enforcement officers were shot and killed in April.
Eight officers were shot, four fatally, in a shootout with suspect Terry Clark Hughes Jr.
A detective found the following at 5525 Galway Drive in east Charlotte:
- Firearms
- Body armor
- Firearm accessories
- Ammunition
- Projectiles
- Discharged cartridge cases
- Photographs
- Cell phones
- Swabs
- Clothing
- Bedding
- “Various” police equipment
The warrant was executed hours after the April 29 shooting and returned on June 14, it says. It offers no new details about what happened, but restates that a United States Marshals Service task force tried to serve an outstanding warrant against Hughes at the house. Someone inside shot at them, and several officers were hit, it says.
“Officers returned fire and Terry Clark Hughes was pronounced deceased at the scene,” it says.
The search warrant became viewable in North Carolina’s online court records portal on Friday, according to Brittany Foster, a spokesperson for Mecklenburg County Clerk of Superior Court Elisa Chinn-Gary.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
