Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a homicide in Ballantyne after a man was found shot dead Monday morning.

Police discovered the man inside of a vehicle during a welfare check shortly after 8 a.m. near the 14000 block of Wynhollow Downs Lane, the department said.

Police did not specify where the scene is, but there’s an apartment complex at that address.

MEDIC reported that someone was shot. The department said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

In July, the department said it had cleared about 70% of the city’s homicides this year between January and June. According to homicide data from CMPD, this is the third homicide in August and the 75th in total for Charlotte so far in 2024.
