Charlotte police are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident after finding a woman lying along the railroad tracks near the city’s South End section.

Midaina Marrero was pronounced dead at the scene after police responded to the report Friday at 9:18 a.m., in the 600 block of W. Summit Ave, according to a release from Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department.

Police believe Marrero was walking on the railroad tracks when she was struck by a train. CMPD did not say if the woman had any visible injuries. The woman’s next of kin has been notified, the release said.

Kendall Carroll, Marrero’s brother, said his sister was only 26 and there is no evidence she was hit by a train, he told The Charlotte Observer in an email Sunday.

Charlotte police are working with its major crash investigation unit, homicide unit and the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s office.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is asked to call Detective Kupfer at 704-432-2169, Ext. 1. The public may also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or via the web at this link.
