A man suspected of shooting at Albemarle police headquarters on West South Street and at an unmarked police vehicle on Sunday morning has been arrested, the department said Tuesday.

No one was injured.

James Edgar Amaendus Kindell, 38, of Badin, N.C., was arrested on Tuesday and charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm within Albemarle city limits, injury to real property and injury to personal property.

He was arrested in New London, N.C., Albemarle police said.

Kindell was charged in 2020 with firing shots at the former Albemarle headquarters on Second Street, the department said. That case is still pending in court, police said.

Chief Jason Bollhorst said police security cameras captured footage of the incident.

Staff work in the police department building 24 hours a day, seven days a week, he said. The building was not seriously damaged.

Bollhorst said the department knows what kind of firearm was used, and declined to provide further details. The reason for the shooting is still under investigation, he said.
