Bold? Or something else? He was caught on video stealing Charlotte FOP political signs.
A man was captured on video stealing political signs posted by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Fraternal Order of Police lodge.
For the third time this month.
The FOP posted videos on Facebook of the individual driving near the lodge, pulling the signs out of the ground, and loading them into his vehicle.
“We wouldn’t really care, but taking things that do not belong to you is illegal,” the FOP posted. “Given our organization is comprised of cops, this makes him either really bold or just stupid.”
The signs were outside the lodge on Hawthorne Lane.
The post said the man had stolen signs on Oct. 10 and 15 as well. The video shows the signs were for Donald Trump, GOP labor commissioner candidate Luke Farley, and Democratic state Senate candidate Woodson Bradley.
“We know some disagree politically, but the amazing thing about this country is that we can still get along while we disagree,” the FOP Facbook post said. “People like him who steal political signs because they disagree, are part of what is wrong with our country.”
It’s not uncommon for political signs to be targeted during elections. In 2020, a 40-foot Trump banner went missing in Boone.
This week, in Missouri, a couple tracked down their stolen sign using an Apple AirTag to a nearby town. A young man or teenager allegedly had about 60 Kamala Harris signs in the trunk of his vehicle.
In September, a south Charlotte man wondered if the burning of his Kamala Harris sign was racially motivated. Other neighbors had their signs stolen or damaged as well.
A person could be charged with a misdemeanor in North Carolina if they’re caught stealing or vandalizing another person’s political signs.
The FOP said it filed a police report and hoped someone would recognize the man in the video, who drove a black Jeep Grand Cherokee.
“We have a never-ending supply of these signs, so we will happily keep replacing them,” the Facebook post said.
