Two people dead in Gaston County shootings

Two people died in shootings late Thursday in Gaston County, Cherryville police said.

Officials responded to a call at 112 Bates Ave., where they say they found Andy Heath Hartman, 40, dead of a gunshot wound, Capt. Cam Jenks said.

A witness to the shooting identified the suspect. Jenks said police found the suspect, Yates Franklin Mauney III, 40, at a home outside city limits, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Officials have not said what they believe may have led to the shootings.
