16-year-old found near old mill outside Charlotte possibly murdered, sheriff says
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the possible murder of a 16-year-old boy whose body was found Sunday alongside a rural road outside Lincolnton, an official said.
Chief Deputy Matt Lykins said a worker from the area found the boy’s body around 7 p.m. on Whitehouse Drive.
The 16-year-old, who lived in the area, was found alone about 200 yards from old mills at the end of the road. Aside from an occasional worker, there is hardly any activity along that road, Lykins said.
The sheriff’s office did not release the boy’s name.
Detectives were looking into leads Monday morning, Lykins said. He declined to provide a description of what the 16-year-old was wearing when he was found, or the nature of his death.
A sheriff’s office press release said anyone with information should contact investigators at 704-732-9050, the Lincoln County Communications Center at 704-735-8202 or Lincoln County Crime Stoppers at 704-736-8909.
