New video from inside Charlotte school bus that was shot shows panicked students
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools released a new video from Monday’s school bus shooting. It shows stray bullets narrowly missing students onboard.
The shooting was reported early Monday evening on the 8800 block of East W. T. Harris Blvd., where it meets Idlewild Road south of Albemarle Road. An Infiniti and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools bus were found shot at the scene, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Approximately 30 students were onboard the bus at the time, according to CMS.
At least one student was injured by broken glass, authorities said, though it’s unclear how many were treated for injuries. CMPD said two students on board were treated for glass cuts while Albemarle Road Middle School Principal Toni Perry said in a message to parents one student was injured and treated by MEDIC.
CMPD has made two arrests, after a witness said the shooting was the result of a nearby drug dispute. Police said the bus was not the intended target.
Tuesday afternoon, police announced that 21-year-old Lamarius Ramel Anthony had been arrested and charged in connection with the case. Paris Lewis-Bynum, 20, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Both men have previous firearms charges, court records showed.
