A shooting and double killing on Sunday bring Charlotte’s 2025 homicide count to 22

Police identified Wesley Guerra, 20, on Monday as the victim of Sunday’s first homicide, at 1 p.m. in the 2600 block of Royston Road in West Charlotte. Officers found Guerra dead with a gunshot wound.

A second person, a 34-year-old woman, was listed as a victim in a CMPD incident report, but it says she wasn’t injured. The report said three cars were damaged.

The victims of a double homicide at 6 p.m. have not been identified; a police report listed their ages as 20 and 25.

Both were found with gunshot wounds in the 4200 block of Welling Avenue in northwest Charlotte, a CMPD press release said.

The men were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later pronounced dead.

Arrests haven’t been made in either homicide case. The three deaths on Sunday brought March’s total homicides in Charlotte to 10.

There were 111 homicides in Charlotte in 2024, an increase from 89 in 2023.
