Two men found unresponsive in a pickup truck in a Burke County church parking lot this week died of intravenous drug overdoses, Sheriff Steve Whisenant said.
Several members of Philadelphia Baptist Church found the truck with its engine running Monday night. They alerted first responders from George Hildebran Fire and Rescue, which is beside the church on George Hildebran School Road in Connelly Springs.
Investigators have requested a toxicology report and an analysis of what appeared to be a controlled substance in the truck, Whisenant said. No evidence of foul play was found, he said. The men’s names are being withheld pending the investigation.
