Police make arrest in triple shooting that left one dead at south Charlotte mini mart
Charlotte police charged a 37-year-old man in a triple shooting at a south Charlotte mini mart on May 5 that left one person dead and critically injured two others.
Terrence Christopher Richardson Jr. was charged with the first-degree murder of Mykel Raymone Washington, 26, and the attempted first-degree murder of the other two victims, a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department press release said Tuesday.
Police have not identified the other two victims.
Detectives arrested Richardson after identifying him with surveillance footage from the mini mart, located at 340 Archdale Drive, and a nearby hotel he had been living at since October 2024, a police affidavit said.
The mini mart footage showed Richardson walking up on the three victims and firing shots at them. He chased one of them into the store and continued to fire at them before fleeing.
“The suspect was wearing tennis shoes, blue jeans, a green t-shirt, grey sweatshirt and a blue covid style mask,” the affidavit said.
He was carrying a Bojangles box in the footage before the shooting.
Detectives learned Richardson was staying at an AmeriVu Inn & Suites on Archdale Drive and Nations Ford Road. Security footage from the hotel showed him going into his room before and after the shooting, according to the affidavit.
He was wearing the same clothing and carrying the same Bojangles box when he left his room before the shooting, according to the affidavit.
He was being held without bond.
