Two people were killed when a man driving on the wrong side of the road ran “head-on” into another car at 2:20 a.m., according to police in North Carolina.

It happened Sunday, May 11, on US 29 near West Green Drive in High Point, and both drivers died at the scene of the crash.

Investigators identified the two drivers as Jose Altagracia De Leon Corcino, 44, of Greensboro and Rolando Ventura Alberto, 19, of Thomasville, police said.

“The preliminary investigation determined Alberto was driving a 2017 Chevy Cruze south in the northbound lanes of US 29. Corcino was driving northbound in a 2005 Honda Odyssey,” police said.

“The two vehicles collided head-on. At this stage of the investigation, it is unknown whether speed or impairment are factors in the crash.”

Maps show the intersection is heavily commercial and lined with street lights.

High Point is about a 100-mile drive northeast from Charlotte.
