House fire that killed 2 in Gaston County caused by heating lamp, officials say

A house fire that killed a 78-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman near Cherryville Sunday morning was ruled accidental by investigators.

Firefighters responded to fire in the 4000 block of Old Lincolnton Road at 10:11 a.m. and found the front and left side of the home “fully engulfed,” according to a Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services release.

The fire was caused by a heating lamp and started on the front porch of the home, the release said.

The names of the man and woman found dead inside of the home have not been released.
