Several people have been hurt following a shooting in north Charlotte Friday evening, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported.

It happened around 5 p.m. on Stroud Park Court near Statesville Avenue.

According to MEDIC, two of the victims were taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Residents said the third victim was shot in the ankle and managed to run a short distance away before stopping and allowing the police to help him.

Neighbor Cynthia Gray told Channel 9 that she lived a few doors down from where the shooting occurred.

“I was getting ready to watch the 5 o’clock news, then I heard 10 to 13 gunshots. Then I jumped on the floor,” Gray explained. “And it was two young guys that were lying down, bleeding, fighting for their lives.”

She said the victims appeared to be in really bad shape.

“Not good, they were breathing slowly,” Gray elaborated. “One guy got shot twice in the neck, one on each side. And the other guy got shot in the head.”

Other neighbors said the victims were young, possibly below the age of 20. They said prior to the shooting, there was a group of 15 or 16 hanging out on the corner. Then there was some kind of altercation, and the victims were shot at close range.

“It’s sad, it’s really sad, the crime is going on. I just wish these young people would put down the guns,” said Gray.

Sources with law enforcement have indicated that they are not searching for a suspect and that someone may be in custody.

However, investigators are still working to determine what sparked the violence.
