Ex-Mecklenburg judge charged with cocaine possession jailed after missing court

A former Mecklenburg judge facing cocaine charges missed a court appearance and was arrested this week.

Charles “Casey” Viser, 53, failed to appear in court May 2 on a felony charge of possession of cocaine and misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

District Court Judge Roy Wiggins issued an order for his arrest.

Viser was arrested shortly after noon on Tuesday, according to records. He then posted a bond later in the afternoon, according to his court file.

Viser was elected as a Superior Court judge in 2020 but resigned in 2022.
