A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools officer was charged Tuesday with taking indecent liberties with a minor.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Officer William Stitt, 61, is accused of inappropriately touching and fondling a minor last Friday.
CMPD said CMS has placed Stitt on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of his criminal charges.
The victim wasn’t someone who Stitt would have come into contact with at work, police said. The victim’s age was not disclosed.
Police said Stitt became a CMS police officer 10 years ago.. He’s also a former CMPD officer. He joined the police department in 1977 and retired one month before he went to work for CMS.
Late Tuesday night, Stitt was being interviewed by police at police headquarters. He will then be transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Department, police said.
