Sixth NC man charged with attempted murder in deadly Hickory party shooting

A 27-year-old Morganton man is the latest person arrested on allegations of involvement in a deadly pool party shooting near Hickory on June 1.

Charles Rodell Kincaid III, 27, was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, according to a Catawba County Sheriff’s Office press release Thursday.

The party at 1125 Walnut Acres Drive in Mountain View was advertised on social media. The shooters fired into the crowd of over 100 people from a hillside, police said.

One man, 58-year-old Shawn Patrick Hood, of Lenoir, was killed, and several others were injured, either from the shooting or while trying to escape to an adjacent neighborhood on Winding Oak Drive. Authorities have said they believe the shooting was gang-related and may have been part of a gang initiation.

Kincaid is the sixth person to be charged with attempted first-degree murder, along with Garon Killian, 20, Toland Huff, 20, Zachary Bates, 22, Ke’andre Mack, 19, and Izaiah Mitchell, 18.

An 18-year-old woman was charged with accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder.

Two other men were charged with allowing alcohol to minors as part of the party planning.

There was no information in the press release about Kincaid’s bond.
