Police identify woman whose body was found under water in west Charlotte

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department identified a 46-year-old woman who was found dead under water in west Charlotte on May 30.

Sarah Elizabeth Ward’s body was found at 1 p.m. during a welfare check in the 4400 block of Golf Acres Drive, according to a CMPD press release Thursday.

Ward was found outdoors and died a sudden or natural death, a CMPD incident report said.

Neither the press release nor the police report said what body of water Ward was found in or how she died, but the address provided is located near Taggart Creek.

CMPD said the investigation into her death is ongoing. Anyone with information can call CMPD’s homicide unit at (704) 432-8477.
