2 dead, 1 hospitalized in uptown Charlotte shooting on Saturday, police say
Two people died and one was hospitalized after a shooting in uptown Charlotte early Saturday morning, police said.
Police on Monday evening in a news release identified the two killed as Gabriel Jacob Lee, 27, and Colby Cash Smith, 18. CMPD did not say what police believe led to the shooting.
On Friday evening, police had to maintain order in and around Romare Bearden Park uptown, a police news release said. Police seized ten guns and arrested 15 people — seven adults and eight teenagers. One officer suffered serious injuries, police said, but the department did not disclose how.
Around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, officers found two people with gunshot wounds in the 200 block of North Caldwell Street after responding to a call of a shooting, according to a CMPD statement.
MEDIC pronounced one person dead at the scene and on Saturday took the other one to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police later learned that a third person who’d been shot drove to a hospital and had non-life threatening injuries.
CMPD released no other details about the shooting and asked anyone with information to call the homicide unit at 704-432-8477 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tips line at 704-334-1600.
