The owner of NoDa restaurant and brewery Salud Cerveceria was charged with embezzling nearly half a million dollars, according to state officials.

He turned himself in on Thursday and was released under a $150,000 unsecured bond in Wake County, according to court records and his attorney.

Jason Glunt, 43, managing member of Salud, LLC, was arrested on nine counts of embezzlement of state property, according to a press release from the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Court records show he was indicted on June 26.

The statement said:

“Indictments allege that Glunt, managing member of Salud, LLC, doing business as Salud Beer Shop / Salud Cerveceria, aided and abetted the business to embezzle, misapply, and convert to its own use approximately $442,914.04 in North Carolina Sales Taxes (State & Mecklenburg County) during the period July 1, 2015 through December 31, 2019 and January 1, 2021 through December 31, 2024.”

An investigation was conducted by the Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the press release said.

Noell P. Tin, an attorney for Glunt, issued a statement to The Charlotte Observer:

“These charges relate to sales taxes. Jason has been cooperating with the Department of Revenue’s investigation for months and fully intends to pay what he owes. Because of his cooperation, lack of criminal history, and absence of evidence that he poses a danger to the community the state allowed Jason to self-surrender with an unsecured bond.”

Glunt is scheduled to first appear in court in Raleigh on July 14.

An employee at Salud who answered the phone on Friday said the business did not immediately have comment.
