The Statesville man accused of fatally shooting his two young sons remained in critical condition Thursday night, said Kevin McCarthy, Carolinas Healthcare System spokesman.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that Shawn Fuller admitted to shooting his sons, who were 3 and 4 years old. When deputies arrived after receiving a domestic disturbance call early Sunday morning, they found Fuller inside the door of the house. He had shot himself, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said Fuller’s wife had hidden the gun that was likely used to shoot the boys inside the house.

A neighbor told the Observer that Fuller frequently had people over to shoot all sorts of weapons, including high-powered rifles, in the backyard. Another neighbor described the house as a “firing range.”
