Gastonia police arrested two people accused of shoplifting at a Lowe’s Home Improvement Store store last week.

A 36-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man were taken into custody on Friday, July 18, according to a Gastonia Police theft report.

On July 18, at 5 p.m., the pair was seen inside the store off Franklin Boulevard gathering items without checking out with payment properly, reports say.

After being notified by a Lowe’s employee, the man attempted to flee on foot, but he was quickly apprehended, police said.

The pair attempted to steal more than $500 worth of various Lowe’s merchandise. A large portion still remains uncovered, police said.

Both have been charged with two counts of shoplifting. The man was also charged with an attempt to escape custody.
