Two people arrested after woman shot in arm in uptown Charlotte early Wednesday
Two people were arrested at the scene of a shooting that injured a woman in uptown Charlotte early Wednesday morning.
One of the two arrested was accused of shooting a 22-year-old woman in the arm at 1:57 a.m. in the 400 block of East 6th Street, according to a CMPD incident report. The shooting occurred outside.
The second person arrested was accused of being in possession of a concealed firearm and marijuana.
Police have not released the names of the two people charged.
Police found a scale and baggies, described as drug paraphernalia in the incident report, as well as a 9 mm pistol and magazine, and 16 rounds of 9 mm Luger ammunition.
A 26-year-old woman was also listed as a victim, but she was uninjured. Neither of the victims knew the suspects, according to the report.
String of uptown shootings
There have been several shootings in uptown recently, raising questions and concerns about safety.
Michael J. Smith, CEO of Charlotte Center City Partners said the group was “deeply troubled by violence of any kind” in uptown in a statement published on July 17. The statement came a few days after a nightclub employee was killed and five others were injured in a shooting near Encore Nightclub Charlotte.
“We must do better as a community,” Smith’s statement said. He said the group would continue working with Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the county, property owners and local businesses to keep uptown safe.
At a press conference on July 18 about mid-year crime stats, CMPD Deputy Chief Ryan Butler said nowhere else in the city has more officers per square block than uptown Charlotte.
