Belmont police said Monday that they arrested an armed man on a boat on the Catawba River who had charges pending in Charlotte.

Police did not release his name, the charges, how they found him or what led up to the incident.

On Facebook, Belmont police said they peacefully resolved a “threat” after advising people to stay indoors in some areas.

That came after police posted that the threat was contained to an area between the river, Catawba Cove Drive, The Conservancy, and the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden.

“This incident has been resolved peacefully and without injury. There is no threat to the public,” Belmont police wrote on Facebook at 3:10 p.m.

Other agencies were in the area to assist, the department said.

Observer public safety editor Patrick Wilson contributed to this report.
