Charlotte police officers shot and injured a man early Thursday morning after he fired at them, according to a police statement.

None of the officers were injured, said police, who asked the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation to investigate the incident.

Police were called shortly before 2 a.m. to assist paramedics in the 800 block of Pineborough Road in east Charlotte.

“Upon arrival, officers encountered a subject acting erratically who then immediately discharged a firearm toward the direction of the officers multiple times,” according to a CMPD statement. “Officers perceived an imminent and deadly threat and returned fire striking the subject several times.”

Police said they recovered a gun from the scene.
