Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating two homicides in separate areas of the city early Saturday.

Just after 2 a.m., officers found 31-year-old Brenton Tarell Samuels with gunshot wounds in the 8800 block of Hollow Creek Circle. That is the address for the Reserve at Stone Hollow apartments, off Mallard Creek Road in northeast Charlotte.

MEDIC pronounced Samuels dead at the scene, police said in a statement. At a hospital, police found a second person who’d been shot at the apartments. The person was in stable condition, police said.

Independence Boulevard shooting

Officers also responded to a homicide in the 5000 block of East Independence Boulevard in east Charlotte.

Just after 4 a.m., three uniformed officers in marked patrol cars were working off-duty when they heard gunfire at a nearby establishment, CMPD Major Stephen Fischbach said in a police video at the scene.

The shooting followed an altercation outside the establishment. Police didn’t name the business, but the only one in that block is Safari Lux Lounge.

Officers found three people with gunshot wounds. Two drove themselves to a hospital. MEDIC took the third person who’d been shot to the hospital, where the person was pronounced dead, police said.

Police later identified the man killed outside the lounge as 31-year-old Shawn Taliesin Davis II.

Police haven’t said if they’re searching for suspects or if they believe the homicides are related.

CMPD asked anyone with information about the shootings to call the homicide unit at 704-432-8477 or the Charlotte Crime Stoppers anonymous tips line at 704-334-1600.

This is a developing story.
