A man was shot outside the Gaston County Courthouse Tuesday, police said in a news release.

The courthouse remained opened, and “there is no threat to the public,” Gastonia Police Department public information officer Bill McGinty said.

Police responded just after 2 p.m. to a “male with a gunshot wound.” The man had been taken to the hospital and police were investigating on the scene.

The shooting comes less than a month after false bomb threats closed the courthouse and adjacent sheriff’s office.
