73-year-old pedestrian fatally struck by SUV in west Charlotte

A 73-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV in west Charlotte Thursday morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Terry Honeycutt was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 6:07 a.m. in the 3300 block of Wilkinson Boulevard, CMPD said.

The road was closed past Donald Ross Road.

Investigators determined a Ford Escape was traveling east on Wilkinson Boulevard when the driver hit Honeycutt while he was crossing the road. The Escape was located near Honeycutt with a damaged front.

CMPD did not identify the name of the driver. No one has been charged.

The driver was not injured, CMPD said. A toxicology report for Honeycutt is pending, police said.

Police did not say if they also were checking toxicology for the driver.
