Police arrested two men in a stabbing at a popular Lake Norman nightspot early Friday.

Officers found a man with a stab wound to his chest after responding to Jay’s at the Lake in the 18200 block of Statesville Road around 2:20 a.m., according to a Cornelius Police Department news release and court records.

The man who was stabbed underwent surgery at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and was in the intensive care unit later Friday, police said.

Police said they arrested 63-year-old Dale Patterson of New York and 27-year-old Denzel Washington of Cornelius after a traffic stop.

Patterson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Washington was charged with intoxicated and disruptive behavior and simple affray.

Both were in the Mecklenburg County jail later Friday, jail records showed.
