Arrest made in 1998 Charlotte rape

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police charged a man Monday for rape and burglary after the case had gone cold for 17 years.

Dwight Burch, 46, is accused of raping a woman in March 1998 at Queen City Motel on Wilkinson Boulevard, police said. CMPD said the victim was in her motel room when a man forced his way in. The two struggled and he sexually and physically assaulted her.

CMPD’s Sexual Assault Cold Case Unit investigated the crime and obtained a warrant for Burch’s arrest. He was arrested Monday morning, CMPD said.
