Two people were killed in their homes by fires in the Charlotte area Wednesday morning, according to Gaston and Union County authorities.

A man died in his mobile near Dallas while another person was found dead in their kitchen in Indian Trail where firefighters extinguished a small fire, press releases said.

Local fire departments rescued the man from his home at 8 a.m. in the 800 block of Lynn Drive, according to a Gaston County Office of Emergency Management and Fire Services press release. The man later died. Authorities had not released his name.

Two firefighters were treated at the scene for minor burns and injuries. The fire was controlled within five minutes and was caused by combustible materials stored too closely to a heating source, the office said.

The fire in Union County occurred in the 5200 block of Shortcut Lane, according to the sheriff’s office. Firefighters found a deceased person near where a small kitchen fire was extinguished.

The fire appeared to be accidental, the sheriff’s office said.

An autopsy will determine the person’s identity and cause of death, the sheriff’s office said.
