Gastonia police arrest 16-year-old boy accused of shooting teen girl in abdomen

A 16-year-old boy in Gastonia is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge after he was accused of shooting a 13-year-old girl in the abdomen.

The shooting occurred Sunday at 4:45 p.m. in the 1400 block of Bryant Street in Gastonia, according to Gastonia Police Department spokesman Bill McGinty.

The 16-year-old was also charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and possession of a handgun by a minor. He was charged as a juvenile and his name was not released.
