The five-year-old, later identified as Jamarei Patterson, and a 10-year-old were flown to the hospital after the crash on Flat Rock Road in Lancaster County Thursday. Jamarei died around 9 p.m. Friday, officials say.
A GoFundMe page, which you can find here, was set up to help the family.
Police say the driver, 34-year-old Ronnie Eugene Patterson, was driving with the kids in the car when he crossed the center line, ran off the road, hit a utility pole, hit a tree and flipped.
The five-year-old was rushed to the ER and then flown to Charlotte. The 10-year-old was flown out from the scene. Officials say both children were wearing seat belts and were not ejected.
Prior to Jamarei's death, Patterson was charged with two counts of DUI resulting in great bodily injury and one count of child endangerment. On Monday, officials confirmed he was additionally charged with one count of DUI resulting in death. They did not say if Paterson is the father of the children.
