Two people standing in the dark fired a barrage of gunshots into a family’s home, and the motive remains a mystery.

It happened before dawn Wednesday, Dec. 10, on West Sunset Drive in Monroe, and the muzzle flares were captured on security video, according to the Monroe Police Department.

“The home had been struck by at least 10 bullets. Multiple people were inside at the time — including young children and older adults,” police said in a news release.

“Despite the number of shots fired, no injuries were reported, which investigators describe as extremely fortunate.”

Nest doorbell video shared on Facebook shows there were at least two shooters, and they positioned themselves in a baseball field across the street at Sunset Park, police said. Both “fired multiple rounds into the home,” officials said.

Around 20 shots are heard, then the shooters are seen running down the street.

The video, viewed 32,000 times as of Dec. 11, has ignited outrage and condemnation of the shooters.

“This could have been very tragic. A whole entire family could’ve been killed,” Margaret Dillingham wrote on Facebook.

Monroe police are asking anyone with information to call the at 704-282-4700.

“Residents and businesses in the vicinity are also asked to review any security camera footage from the timeframe of the incident and report anything that may be helpful to investigators,” police said.

Monroe is about a 30-mile drive southeast from uptown Charlotte.
