Police: Teen on e-bike who was hit by driver in Charlotte has died

A teenager hit by a driver last month while riding an electric bicycle in Charlotte has died at a hospital, police said.

Amber Caralexa Paris, 15, was thrown from the bike when the driver hit her around 5:45 p.m. Nov. 24 at Driftwood Drive and Winterfield Place in east Charlotte, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.

The driver ran away, but police found and arrested him the next day.

Amber died on Friday, police said.

Police charged 40-year-old Julio Cesar Xocop-Vicente with felony hit-and-run, reckless driving and no operator’s license.

“Detectives will be working with the District Attorney’s Office to determine further charges,” according to the CMPD statement.
