Charlotte has its first homicide of 2026 just days into the new year, CMPD says

Charlotte’s first reported homicide of 2026 happened Monday evening on a street lined with single family homes, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Police identified the victim on Tuesday afternoon as Kishmere Wright, 24. It happened around 7 p.m. Jan. 5, in the 3000 block of Carol Avenue. The neighborhood is just east of Tuckaseegee Road.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with gunshot wounds. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene,” CMPD said in a news release.

Details of a suspect were not released.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the CMPD Homicide Unit at 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a detective. Anonymous tips can be offered through Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
