Woman fatally shot in Charlotte. Police arrest suspect miles from scene.

Police arrested a 22-year-old suspect in Friday’s fatal shooting of a 50-year-old woman outside a commercial strip in northwest Charlotte.

Ina Michelle Lang was killed just after 10:30 a.m. in the 9700 block of Callabridge Court, according to a Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department news release. That’s off Mount Holly-Huntersville Road.

On Saturday, police said they have arrested and charged Sam’on Andrew Smith with murder.

Police did not say if Lang knew her assailant or why they believe she was killed.

Officers found Lang with a gunshot wound, and MEDIC pronounced her dead at the scene, according to the police news release.

The shooting happened outside a Bank of America branch, multiple media outlets reported. Police arrested Smith five miles away in a home on Quail Street near Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported.
