911 call for a welfare check leads to body among Charlotte warehouses, CMPD says

A body was discovered when police were summoned to do a welfare check among warehouses in the 700 block of Lawton Road, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Tabulon Debreshea Reece, 33, was found around 6 a.m. Sunday, CMPD said in a Feb. 16 news release.

A specific cause of death has not been released.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim who had sustained apparent trauma. MEDIC pronounced the victim deceased on scene,” CMPD said.

“As a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified Nicholas Jordan Gandy, 37, as a suspect.”

Gandy was arrested Monday, Feb. 16, and has been charged with murder, CMPD said.

Lawton Road is off Brookshire Boulevard in northeast Charlotte, and is lined with warehouses and tractor-trailer parking lots, maps show.
