Man admits to fatal uptown Charlotte shooting, gets lengthy prison term

A man pleaded guilty in a 2024 killing outside an uptown Charlotte business and was sentenced to at least 15 years in prison, prosecutors said Friday.

Laquan Hoe, 32, was convicted in the fatal shooting of Aundrey Brown, 30, during an altercation near the 600 block of North Tryon Street just after 2 a.m. June 8, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.

Brown, another man and two women were involved in the altercation outside the business after being denied entry, police said surveillance video showed.

Brown was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries and the others with non-life threatening injuries, police said. Brown died a month later.

During the Feb. 2-27 Mecklenburg County Superior Court session, Hoe pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Judge George Bell sentenced Hoe to a maximum 20 years in prison, prosecutors said.
