CMPD investigating body found in hilly, outdoor area of west Mecklenburg County

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg police department is investigating a death in west Mecklenburg, according to a safety alert posted Tuesday afternoon on social media.

Police were called at 10:16 a.m. Tuesday to the 700 block of Belmeade Drive, and found the victim in a utility right-of-way, the department said in a news release.

CMPD identified the victim as 24-year-old Julian Cyruss Spencer on Wednesday in a news release.

Police had cleared the scene by 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when two homicide detectives and a person with the county medical examiner’s office left.

The area the police walked from was up a hilly trail alongside train tracks that splits off down toward a creek and woods. An incident report said a person called police after walking around the area and finding Spencer.
