Juvenile crawls through window, tries undressing woman as she slept, NC police say

A “disturbing” burglary is under investigation in Monroe after a woman awoke to find a stranger trying to remove her clothes, according to investigators in Union County.

It happened around 11 p.m. Wednesday, at an apartment on Cotton Street, and a juvenile has been arrested as a suspect, the Monroe Police Department said in a March 19 news release.

“During the investigation, detectives learned an unknown man climbed through a window and entered the victim’s bedroom while she was asleep,” police said.

“The victim woke up when the suspect began trying to remove her clothing. She screamed, and the suspect immediately fled out the front door.”

Evidence led police to suspect a juvenile was involved, and a suspect was located and arrested, officials said. “Due to the suspect’s age, no identifying information will be released in accordance with state law,” police said.

Details of the evidence were not released, but police asked neighbors to check home security and doorbell cameras for suspicious activity.

Cotton Street is along the property line of Monroe Middle School, and intersects the U.S. Army National Guard Armory property, maps show.

Monroe is about a 25-mile drive southeast from uptown Charlotte.
