CMPD charges man with stabbing his sleeping dad in neck with knife

A man charged with first-degree murder told Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers he stabbed his father in the neck while he slept Tuesday afternoon, according to a court filing.

CMPD identified the suspect as Drazan Sinanovic, 51, and the victim as Savo Sinanovic, 75, in a news release.

A police affidavit said Drazan Sinanovic told investigators he used a knife he purchased earlier in the day March 24 to stab his father at a home in the 1200 block of Maple Shade Lane, according a police affidavit filed in court.

Sinanovic’s mother told police she heard a commotion downstairs and saw Sinanovic kneeling over Sinanovic’s father with a knife sticking out of his neck. She pushed Sinanovic off of her husband and outside the southeast Charlotte home until police arrived to arrest him, the affidavit said.

Sinanovic is being held on no bond in the Mecklenburg County Jail, according to records.
