A woman died after shots were fired into a Charlotte home, police said Friday.

University Division officers found 35-year-old Alisha Shanell Lewis with life-threatening injuries at a home in the 3100 block of High Glen Drive after responding to a call just before 9:30 a.m., according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release. Medics pronounced Lewis dead, police said.

The home is off West W.T. Harris Boulevard in north Charlotte.

Person had multiple gunshot wounds, police say

Charlotte has experienced at least 19 homicides this year, according to a Charlotte Observer database of killings in the Queen City. .

The latest fatal shooting happened Thursday night, and a neighbor found the victim Friday morning, Charlotte Observer news partner WSOC reported, citing police.

Lewis had multiple gunshot wounds, according to the police news release.
