A fatal shooting in a north Charlotte residential neighborhood has been linked to a gunfight that also sent bullets flying into a home, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The man who died has been identified as 24-year-old Zaquez Samprese Blakley, CMPD reported in an April 19 news release.

Blakley was shot around 8:45 p.m. Saturday in the 2300 block of Dundeen Street, which is a block west of Beatties Ford Road in the Washington Heights community.

“Officers responded to a shooting into an occupied dwelling call. ... They conducted an investigation and determined that two individuals exchanged gunfire, during which at least one residence was struck,” CMPD said.

“No injuries were reported in connection with the home that was shot into. One of the individuals involved in the shooting later arrived at the hospital by personal vehicle with a gunshot wound. This individual subsequently succumbed to their injuries.”

Investigators have not released details of a suspect or motive for the gunfire.

Anyone with information is asked to contact CMPD’s Homicide Unit at 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a detective. Anonymous tips can be offered by calling Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
