One dead, one wounded by gunshots at Concord city park, NC police say

One person was killed, and a second person was wounded when shots were fired at a popular Concord city park, according to police.

It happened just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the back parking lot of at Hartsell Park on Sunderland Road SW, officials said.

The identity of the person who died has not been released. The second victim remains hospitalized, police said in an April 23 news release.

Details of a suspect were not released.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community,” police said.

Hartsell Park is 14 acres and includes picnic facilities and playground equipment.

The park is about a 25-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
