Gunfire in the middle of the night kills one person, wounds a second, CMPD says

A 911 call just before 2 a.m. Friday led police to two people with gunshot wounds, one of them dead, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say.

The shootings happened in the 1200 block of Weldon Avenue, just south of The Plaza. The residential neighborhood is near Eastway Drive, maps show.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered two victims who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. MEDIC pronounced one victim deceased on scene,” police said in a May 15 news release.

“The second victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for apparent non-life-threatening injuries.”

Identities of the two people have not been released.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call the CMPD Homicide Unit at 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. Anonymous tips can be offered by calling Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
