A weekend dispute in a Charlotte subdivision ended with one person killed by an acquaintance, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Lionel Rodrigues Smith, 43, has been charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in the death of 50-year-old Odell Davis, police said in a Monday news release. Smith was booked into uptown’s jail early Monday morning.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday in the 8100 block of Paw Club Drive, in northwest Charlotte. The neighborhood is northeast of the intersection of Interstate 85 and Interstate 485.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The Charlotte Fire Department pronounced the victim deceased on scene,” CMPD said in a May 17 news release.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that all parties involved are known and officers are not currently looking for any additional suspects at this time.”

Details of a motive have not been released.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the CMPD Homicide Unit at 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak to a detective. Anonymous tips can be provided through Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
