Driver dies at hospital days after head-on crash on a Charlotte road, police say

A driver died at a hospital days after he was injured in a head-on wreck in east Charlotte, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Friday.

Roosevelt Davis III, 55, was making a U turn in a Kia Forte compact sedan when he collided with the 23-year-old driver of a Kia Soul subcompact SUV, police said.

The cars collided in the 6100 block of Hickory Grove Road just after 9:30 p.m. Monday, May 18, according to a CMPD news release. That’s near the intersection with East W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The drivers were hospitalized with what CMPD officers described at the time as non-life-threatening injuries. Police have not said what changed in Davis’ condition or why he died. Davis lived in Charlotte, public records show.

Police asked anyone who saw or has information about the crash to call CMPD Detective M.R. Pressley at 704-432-2169, extension 2, or the Charlotte Crime Stoppers anonymous tips line at 704-334-1600.
