A body was discovered when officers responded to reports of a breaking and entering in east Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The identity of the person who died has not been released.

It happened Sunday in the 5800 block of Hickory Grove Road, which is a residential area except for a daycare facility, maps show.

“Shortly after 10:30 a.m., officers responded to a breaking and entering call for service. Upon arrival, officers discovered a victim with a gunshot wound. Medic pronounced the victim deceased on the scene,” CMPD said in a June 14 news release.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

Investigators did not release a motive for the shooting and did not report details of a suspect.

Among the units responding to the scene was Victim Services, which “is dedicated to serving families in Charlotte who have felt the devastation of losing a loved one to homicide.”

“Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-8477 (TIPS) and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective,” CMPD said. “The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.”
