A recent Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs report showed that overall crime is down by 9 percent, while crimes against society, like drug and firearm-related crimes, have surged by 31 percent.

A pregnant woman and 34-year-old man were stabbed Tuesday in Northeast Charlotte, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The incident occurred around 3:40 p.m. on Equipment Drive and Sugar Creek near the I-85 exit, according to an incident report by CMPD. The suspect assaulted the pregnant woman in an attempt to kill her and then did the same to the man, police said.
Police added that the man suffered serious injuries while the woman suffered minor ones.
